Sainsbury’s Launches ‘Youth Can’

With all the doom and gloom surrounding youth unemployment figures in the UK, one of the nation's biggest food retailers has decided to step up to the plate. We've been working with Sainsbury's to develop and launch their Youth Can initiative, which shows young people that there is more to working in retail than just stacking shelves.

The campaign includes a careers toolkit and a short film featuring one of the many Sainsbury's colleague success stories, Adil Majid. After joining Sainsbury's seven years ago aged 19, Adil is now the store manager of the retailer's store Ilford in East London, managing 160 colleagues.

Adil is far from being the only successful young person working at Sainsbury's. A third of Sainsbury's colleagues are under the age of 25 and this scheme will see them acting as ambassadors, visiting schools and colleges throughout the UK, using the toolkit to demonstrate why students should consider a career with Sainsbury's. Their main message is simple and hopefully a tempting one: with 100s of roles earning over £50k, Sainsbury's isn't just a job. It's the business.
